Our Company

Gowalla is a social game played in the real world. It uses augmented reality to inspire people to explore their city, discover new places, and create shared experiences with friends.

In preparation of our flagship app launch in Summer 2021, we recently released the Gowalla Street Team app, a private companion experience where passionate explorers can curate their cities and neighborhoods with information useful for inclusion in the core Gowalla app.

We are a small, remote-native team led by social and consumer software veterans. We've designed and built products at early-stage startups as well as established technology companies like Apple, Facebook, and Instagram. We're backed by industry-leading VCs and prominent angel investors from a unique collection of backgrounds.

We Believe

  • Our relationships with real-world locations, experiences, and memories are core to our personal identity. The places we go speak to our passions, values, and desires for connection as people.
  • Community is as important to the success of our endeavor as product, engineering, or design. The most loved companies of the future will make community a core pillar of their brand.
  • The devices we carry with us are still bursting with untapped potential to connect with the world we live in every day. We aim to manifest magical experiences from the future now.

Who You Are

You're bold. Your style is simple, fun, bright, and iconic. Your point of view is distinct and recognizable. You understand what makes a visual concept powerful, and you know when and how to edit.

You're curious about the world. You like to wonder and explore. You're fascinated by the intersection of the digital and physical worlds, and you're excited to push the boundaries between art and reality.

You love pop culture, fashion, design, and nostalgia. You're fascinated with cult brands, collectibles, and iconic objects that society embraces as a means for expressing shared origins, experiences, and identity.

You're attentive to the details that matter. You recognize instantly what makes a design great, and avoid spending time on unnecessary complications. You measure twice and cut once. You understand that the execution is as important as the concept.

You judiciously employ systems to streamline your craft. You work quickly, avoid rabbit holes, and devise processes that empower you and others to create remarkably great work in less time. Without sacrificing quality, you understand that speed is a superpower.

What You'll Do

You'll help document and define Gowalla's 3D art direction and aesthetic. You'll work with designers, 2D artists, and engineers to devise artistic standards for use throughout our products, ensuring a consistent experience that is unmistakably "Gowalla."

You'll inspire people to explore the world from new perspectives. You'll create models for virtual goods and collectibles; design in-game 3D assets; define animations and interactions; and introduce people to new ways of exploring the world.

You'll develop systems that empower people to share their cities and neighborhoods. Using 3D software like Blender and Vectary; AR tools like Reality Composer and Adobe Aero; as well as proprietary systems developed in-house, you'll envision processes and workflows that empower our team and community to paint the world in 3D.

You'll provide guidance to our product team. As an expert in your craft, you'll provide direction for our designers, engineers, and community team, informing them on best practices for the display and use of 3D & AR assets within the world of Gowalla.

You'll help deliver AR experiences at scale. Working with our engineering team, you'll devise methods and standards to deliver optimized 3D assets for large scale network and platform use.

We are committed to assembling an unrivaled team of artists, technologists, and adventurers who aim to create a new way to explore the world. As an early crew member, you'll have enormous impact on both our product and company culture. If you're excited about our mission, and believe you might be a fit, we'd love to hear from you.
